Ancient Greek Geography
Goals & Objectives
During a physical map activity, students will describe and locate the geographical features of Greece and connect the importance of geography to the development of five Greek city-states.

How does the geography of Greece affect the Greeks lifestyle?
Lesson Introduction ‖ Time: 5-10 min
The seating arrangements for the unit will mirror a map of ancient Greece. Five table groups will represent the five city-states and are located in the same way they would be located on a map. Each table group has anywhere from 6-8 seats. Students will be asked to place geographical (Aegean Sea, Mt. Olympus, etc.) labels/signs around the classroom according to where they are, as if the room was reflecting a map of Greece. This activity will give the teacher access to their prior knowledge on the geography of Ancient Greece.
Vocabulary ‖ Time: 5-10 min
Students will engage with all vocabulary word during the lesson introduction.

Content Delivery ‖ Time: 25-30 min
Students will be led through a Prezi presentation where they will complete the guided notes. The Prezi will be student interactive and will require students to get out of their seats.

Student Engagement ‖ Time: 10 min
Students will participate in a think-pair share activity- Students will participate in a teacher led discussion and talk about each question with their partner before sharing out with the class.
Lesson Closure ‖ Time: 5 min
Students will choose one question from the Think-Pair-Share activity and write a response on a post it note.
Assessments
Teacher will do constant checks for understanding during the lesson. These formative assessments will include:
-Check that all students have copied down work on the board.
-Check for understanding by asking probing questions.
-Use 1-2-3 to gauge student understanding
-Check by asking students to raise their hands if…..
- Post-it Exit ticket
-Check that students are receiving the help they need by conducting class surveys.
-Check that students understand the material by skimming their responses during independent work time.
The summative assessment will take place during the lesson closure. Evaluation of student responses in the Post-it exit ticket will determine if the goals and objectives were successful for the day. If students were unclear of the terms and big ideas, the teacher will have to review of the material covered the following day.
Accommodations for English Learners, Striving Readers and Students with Special Needs
The Guided Notes, online dictionary, and vocabulary graphic organizer will help both English learners and students with special needs. These visual interpretations as well as guided notes will help these students become better equipped to organize the information presented in the lecture in a way that is simpler to understand.
